Travelling

Am finally able to update this blog. Good time to do so now 'cos am trying to keep awake to prevent jet lag...need to regain energy for a full day meeting tmr :P a sure sign that the hols are over...

Had one of my most eventful June hols ever - a one week band trip to Osaka and then a personal holiday to New York, with just a day's rest in between. Ha, not sure what possessed me to plan 2 trips back to back, sounded pretty exciting when I was planning it, but was certainly quite tiring!

Osaka is a pretty nice city, not too big, and near enough to Kyoto and Nara to be rather interesting culturally. Japanese students are amazingly disciplined (at least those in the schools we went to), it was quite fun to watch how a group of 160 Jap girls organised themselves into neat rows in a few minutes flat while 50 S'pore students took forever to do the same. And the common sight of high school students walking in 2 neat lines on an excursion is certainly a S'porean teacher's dream. Of course we also saw the Jap 'lians' & 'bengs' who cut queues and hiked up their skirts so high we didn't know where to look ha. But being responsible for other people's kids in a foreign land is a pretty stressful job...my deepest admiration for teachers who bring huge groups of primary school students for overseas trips!

New York's a dream come true, have been planning this trip for the last 3 years but it never came to pass till now. There are just so many things to see, things that one have always read about and seen on TV...and suddenly they are there, looming in front of you, for real!

More on New York next time, wanted to post pix and talk more abt it but think my brain's shutting down...
